If you have not looked around lately, I have given myself a whole new look ~ but, I must give credit for the top photo to my good friend Cindy. It is her picture up there (making me look good) ~ those yarn cakes are beautiful aren't they?

I have also added a new widget from Library Thing a very cool site that will help you track books in your personal library. Me, I am tracking books that I have already "listened to" See, I have a daily two hour work commute so...I am spending 10 hours a week listening to audio books.

Well, I am destashing all of this CRAP on Ebay...Who knew I had a MILLION pattern books in the spare bedroom ~ oh god I have issues!And Sock Yarn ~ OMG I will not live long enough to knit it all! I have counted my sock yarn stash ~ I own over 300 skeins ~ again...OMG!

And TOTE BAGS....I only have 2 freaking arms!

So ~ I need to get rid of this stuff ~ I am a COLLECTOR of CRAP ~ My Husband has put up with my hording for years ~ I have told him "yeah I am going to sell it, don't worry" that was our coversation over the last 7 years ~ last night when I was getting this crap toghether to take pics he offered me $100 for the lot ~ hrumph I was insulted ~ ME "hey, there is some good crap in this lot, and what are you going to do with it any way?" DH ~ "get me a trash can"

Projects Update ~ long overdue!

I wanted to share some of my recent projects...Enjoy!

Knitty Clapotis #1 knit with Lornas Laces Lion & Lamb in Safari colorway ~I used 4 skeins on size 8 needles ~ I added an additonl 6 repeats to the straight section. It still unblocked and I still have not woven in the ends. (well, it is July and I have a few months before I wear it!)

Knitty Clapotis #2 ~ knit with Brooks Firber Farm ~ Four Play ~ 50% wool and 50% silk. I used 3 full skeins (270 yds per) on size 9 needles...again unblocked. I picked up this yarn at this years MDS&W ~ the colorway is a mixute of blue, brown and cream and it really reminds me of our Ragdoll Cats ~ I am still so amazed by this pattern. And I still want to do another one in Noro Silk Garden ~ colorway 225.

Knitty Sitcom Chic ~ knit with the new Lion Brand Cotton Ease ~ colorway Stone ~ size 8 needles. This pattern was kindly upsized by Cindy. I like the sweater ~ Alot, but it is just way to big...so, I am procrastaning on finishing it. Again...I have time right? :-)

Another Knitting Shop Bites the Dust

I am getting worried! Within the last few months three yarn shops in my area have closed. Unraveled in Douglasville, PA ~ The Main Skein in Ambler, PA ~ and NOW Technicolor Sheep in Havertown, PA is having their closing sale now! I also have seen a few others change ownership!

Also, if you read Knitters like I do...cover to cover, in the classified section under business opps there is an ad for an "Established Hand-Dyed Yarn Company for SALE". with a (717) area code ~ this is also a little concerning! And to top it all off, I have heard rumors that a VERY WELL ESTABLISHED Yarn Shop on my list to the right ~ is also for sale! WHATS up with this? Has the knitting wave crested and we are now on the down side? Or is it the power of the internet, shop marketing, customer buying trends? Comments Please ~ I would love to know what you think...

Ok it has just been confirmed with a comment from Joan ~ that it is The Mannings that is for sale! Please, oh please...someone buy it!

I had promised an update about Stiches East...Well, I was so overwhelmed by everything I saw and bought that I am still recovering mentally and financially.

But really, it has been life that has gotten in the way! Stiches was great, but more importantly it was the company of some very good Knitsters that made it a memorable! I am truly lucky to have found such great friends...I will update soon with pic's of some of my recent projects.

Last night I was reading the emails from my SnB group and Julie has asked the group if anyone knew of a simple cable scarf pattern. Susan sent the group a link to the Irish Hiking Scarf. I don't know what came over me. Before I knew it I printed the pattern and cast on. Here are the results! I am really proud of myself...Cindy told me cables were easy and I was a little leary...This scarf is addictive, I just couldn't stop knitting! I started it at 7pm last night and I didn't stop until Midnight...the yarn is the New Patons SWS in Natural Earth 70% Wool and 30% Soy. I bought a skein to see if I would like it and I have to say it is wonderful to knit with. I am using size 9 bamboo needles. The soy gives the yarn a beautiful halo type sheen and it is so soft. The only thing I would of changed was my cast on. I used a crochet cast on and it is just not tight enough. Well off to by two more skeins...

Sorry I havn't posted is a while but, I just can't seem to get my butt in gear. Just to catch up I have been working on the following projects: Berroco Soleil in Suede ~ This is going to be a shop sample for Old Pedder Wools. It is really a beautiful shawl but, it is taking forever...lets see...cast on 421 stiches...OMG what was I thinking. Next, I have been working on the Fiber Trends Peak Experience Socks for a class I will be teaching this fall at OPW...Oh, yeah I am totally way to excited about teaching this class. I am using Super Sock Merino from Cherry Tree Hill yarn in Country Garden for my class sample. Trust me the website does not give this yarn justice. Also this fall I will be teaching a begining Crochet class at OPW and I will be using the Fiber Trends Easy Crocheted Baby Blankets pattern. I am spreading my wings, now if I can just get over my fear of arm hole shaping and decreasing for the neck line at the same time, I can get my beauitful Kathmandu Aran Tweed Cardigan done....I am such a woose!. I have added a few cool sites and links to the right. Please check them out escpecially Seahorse Designs. They have the nicest stitch markers I have ever seen. I picked up a set at the TKG show in Valley Forge this summer and I was totally impressed! Well, hope all is well and you all had an awesome Knitty Summer...

The infamous Lucy Bag is finished! I made this for a girlfriend at work, I am just so glad she likes it! Hey... She looks good! Here's the knitty gritty:
Pattern from Two Old Bags: Once I understood the crochet start it was a breeze to knit. (like you didn't know that!)
Yarn: Lopi Lite ~ 5 skeins ~ Don't ya love the color?
Felting: in my front load washer ~ took 3 cycles, I was a little scared because with the front load washer you just can't open the lid to look at it. I also put it in a nylon pillow case cover. That really helped with the fuzzys from clogging up the filter. The fabric is nice and firm and it is a little hairy. Needles: Addi Turbos ~ The wool just flys of the needles.
Time: Just about a week from start to felting.

Also, Saturday June 10th was World Wide Knit in Public Day and Chesco SnB did its part! Here we are Rosie, Cindy, Kate, Ann, Kim, Nicole and Me (behind the camera) at Wegmans in Downingtown. What a great place to KIP. Comfy seating and plenty of food! The day was topped of with a yarn crawl to The Yarn Shop on the Farm in Stevens, PA. The shop is closing and they had a 30% off sale. How could we say no to that! I picked up some beautiful Peace Fleece in a coppery brown...Hum, a warm cardigan? A lot of out of print Knitters Mags and patterns. It was a fun day!

I am a Cervical Cancer Survivor, I can’t stress enough how important it is to tell everyone person you know about human papilloma virus (HPV).

I contracted HPV when I was in my early twenties. Yes, I was in a monogamous relationship but, my partner carried the virus and I didn’t know it. Lucky me...I contracted vaginal warts. At the time that was my only warning, I had no other symptoms, and I felt perfectly fine. No one talked to me about HPV; no one told me that HPV can cause cervical cancer, not even my doctor. Over the years I had regular Pap Tests…and at the age of 30….I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer…words can not describe how devastated I was…within two weeks of my diagnosis I had a Radical Hysterectomy. This will always be the most traumatic event in my life; to this day it still haunts me that I can not have children. The decision to have children was taken out of my hands, I didn’t have a choice, life or death...I choose life.

Breaking Socks that Rock News....

For those of you who don't already know...I was able to join the SOCKS THAT ROCK Sock Club last weekend (along with 199 other people) and I just got off the phone with Blue Moon Fiber Arts to see when I can expect my first club shipment and I was told that starting next week, yes that's next Monday....they will be offering the Cedar Creek colorway yarn and pattern for sale! (YAHOO!) and the best news is that they will be offering all new sock colorways on their website! So, I ask..Are you retiring any colors? And I got "we are not sure yet".... OMG..I am going to be broke!!!

A Very UnKnitty Weekend

This weekend my knitting buddys had a retreat at Rosie's Bed & Breakfast and I couldn't go - from the looks of the pictures that Ann posted on the Groups site, it looks like it was a blast.

Wana know why I didn't go...my husband wanted to go turkey hunting...yes, you heard right, turkey hunting! We went to his buddys Dairy Farm in Honesdale which is in northern Wayne County, PA . And the sadest part... not a Yarn Shop to be found for miles, I checked the phone book and the closet shop was in Scranton, 2 hours away. The weather did hold out and the drive was really pleasent.

Heres the Main Barn and the Old barn...pretty cool - There are 45 dairy cows in that barn. This has been a working dairy farm for over 100 years and it has been run by the same family.

Here's the creek that runs through the farm...isn't it beautiful!

We even stoppped at a buffalo farm just outside Lake Ariel, PA.

The calf was only 6 weeks old and I have never seen a white Buffalo before. The farms owner told me that they are very, very rare. It really was a great weekend!

Hey Rosie, how much was that Alpaca?

This was my second year at MS& W and again I was not disappointed. I and three friends took a bus trip with Unraveled Yarns out of Douglasville. Next year Cindy and I are definitely going to spend the weekend, anyone wana come? The best part of the trip, spending the day with good friends, no driving, close parking to the gate, and I won a door prize on the bus! Ok, I know I am all about the swag, but, that is another story.

I was feeling under the weather with a head cold, and I just didn't have it in me spend much money, I know Cindy was a little worried. I did score some beautiful Bartlett Yarn at only $4 a skein that is about 40% off retail - I just love wool that smells good. I was genuinely bummed that all the Socks that Rock yarn had sold out fast. I didn't even get a chance at it...Oh well, there is always next year! I also picked up two awesome Crippen Works needle cases. I have been a fan of Katerine's cases since I purchased one last year at stitches. I was great meeting her in person and letting her know I really admire her work.

I want to thank Cindy, Julie, Ann, Faith, Kim, Rosie and all of Rosies friends for a very memorable day!

Frustration

Well I broke my new digital camera Sunday and I am so bummed! I sent it out to Cannon this morning and I hope, pray and pray some more that they can fix it SOON!

My frustration comes from the lack of customer service at Circut City and I am totally stumped with my Kathmandu Cardigan. I just can't get past the part of the directions that have me start the neckline decrease and the armhole decrease at the same time. I have tried to write the pattern out but, I am still not getting it! I must be the dummest knitter on earth. This Saturday my Knitting Group is having a Birthday get together at the Mannings...every knitters dream...Celebrating their Birthday at the most incredible yarn store ever! Well, no pics till my camera comes home.

I have been working on my Katmandu Aran Tweed Cardigan, so I haven't posted in a while. I have the whole back done and I am now working on the front left panel. I tried to load the pics below last week but, I was having a little trouble. I really hope to get it done so I can wear it to the Maryland Sheep & Wool festival. Also this month I have knit a pairs of socks for a friend.

How many of you love Hanna Falkenberg? I for one am a huge fan! I was even tempted to buy the Pagoda Jacket kit at Stitches last year but was a little intimated. But, tonight I found the coolest blog. A Hanna Falkenburg Knit-a-Long...How cool is that?? Hum..Maybe the Pagoda is in my future?

Lilly Chin Class and My New Project

Yesterday I spent the day in West Chester, PA attending a class given by LILY CHIN. I am a big fan of hers, and I thought what a great way to learn and spend time with her. It was her "shaping up shortrows" and "tips & tricks" classes. Last year when I went to sign up at Stiches East, both classes were sold out! I thought this would be a great substitute. And I was not disappointed! I found Lily, charming and a very good teacher. She really helped me to understand those mysterious shortrows, and her tips class... I will never sew on a button again! If you ever get a chance to attend one of her class, I would highly recommend it. I found out about the class from the the Philly Knitters yahoo group. I was actually a fundraiser for the Brandywine Ballet Co. First, did anyone know that Chester County,PA had a Ballet Company? Ok, back on subject...So, I signed up!

Little did I know that the day was really sponsored by the ML Knitting Guild...Hum, a little sneaky...The day was long...It went from 9am to 5pm and included lunch...And I must say it was well worth the money...There was about 20 guild ladies there, really I am surprised that they took my money...Now to my Knitsters at my ChescoSnB...Please remind me...NEVER, NEVER, NEVER to join a knitting guild! Now, I am an independent, adventerous women, I have no fear of walking into a room and not knowing anyone, why? Because, I will talk to anyone....But, these guild ladies, were soooooooo, I can't even find the words...Lets, say this...I don't need to have my "friends" sit with me all the time and I don't' need a "friend" with me to go to the ladies room...id I paint a picture...Guild ladies, it doesn't hurt to just be nice to a sister knitter.

Ok, off my rant....I start a new knitting class this week...I will be making my knitted first cardigan...The first class will be this coming Thursday night...I am so looking forward to it. The class is at Olde Peddler Wools in Morgantown, and is being taught by Susan Muller, she was the instructor for my Icelandic Sweater class...And I really like her teaching techniques. The yarn is from Queensland Collection ~ Kathmandu Aran Tweed, color 130 Taffeta, it is a mixture of wool, silk and cashmere. The pattern is from Designs by Judith.

Last night while working on my Jaywakers socks I had just finished a double decrease...what do I hear..."SNAP," Dam...one of my 4 inch Britney Birch dpn BROKE! It was the loudest noise you have ever heard...and my wonderful husband says, "oh did you break a needle?" Well, I shot him a look of "Duh, didn't you hear that @#%& tree fall ?" Well, he ran for cover so fast if would of made your head spin and he never looked back. Oh, I was hot, hot, hot!

Ok, Theresa put the needles down and no one will get hurt.

Well the Oregon Tote is done! And I am so pleased with the results...what do you think?

Yesterday our impromptu SnB at Wegman's and the Yarn Crawl to the Mannings was great, I really think it was the company that made it so special, Thanks Rosie for driving and also stopping at that drive-thru Starbucks in Lancaster, you made my day....Hey Rosie, order me a quad grande cinnamon dolce latte.

At SnB Cindy was gracous enough to help me get started on my Opal Petticote Jaywaker Socks. Even after Cindy helped me with the double decrease. It took me 3 times to get it right. Thanks Cindy!

Later at the Mannings, What a great time... If you have never been to the Mannings, at least once in your life you must go - I can only relate a vist to the Mannings to the first time I saw the Grand Canyon...does that give you a visual? In my opinion, the Mannings is something any fiberholic must experience! Rosie, Cindy, Nicole and Julie thank you all for a great day!

Just a quick update

Well, I am back from California in one piece! The road trip went well, no speeding tickets! But, I will tell you, driving 2787 miles in 5 days with two "older" women... And stopping to eat and wee at every Cracker Barrel along the way is very exhausting. Don't get me wrong, I like to eat there ONCE in a WHILE...But, every day - it was daunting on my system. And guess what...I did all the driving and didn't knit a stitch, trust me I was jonesing for my needles.

Now, for my knitting projects update:
Oregon Tote: I finished my Oregon Tote at last nights SnB, (oh, note to self, love the I-Cord bindoff, but not 3 times around!) it is in the washer as I type - but, here is the funny part...I don't start the tote bag class at Olde Peddler Wools till next Tuesday, hum...Am I nuts! It was a breeze to knit and I can't wait to use it. I think I will do the larger version, My Constant Companion next.

Whew what a Knitty weekend!

Well, it was a great weekend and I have so much to talk about. First, I wanted you all to know that Little Sockotta will be coming home soon. I actually got to see her Sunday, as Lauren , Cindy and I went to a great yarn sale on Sunday. The shop is called Knitty Knotty ( I just love the name!) it is in New Jersey, (Lauren's old stomping grounds) Now, the deal was if we got there before 11am we got 25% off our yarn purchase. OMG hold me back...All I can say is I can't wait to go back to this store. It is awesome, Lauren really knows her stuff. I think Lauren and Cindy were taking bets in line on how much I would spend, I wonder who won?

Getting back to my kidnapped sockotta, Lauren and I have come to an awesome resolution. I will knit a pair of socks for her mom and she will take all the credit, and I get to have my Little Sockotta back. I think I am getting off light. Oh, yeah I still have to teach her how to knit socks...Here is a picture of my Ransom Socks in progress.

My current project that I am really enjoying is the Oregon Felted Tote from KnitKits.com, now I am supposed to start a class at Olde Peddler Wools in Morgantown next week, but I will not be able to make it, so I thought I would get a head start, Yes, I know...over achiever! I am using Brown Sheep Bulky and the color is Medieval Red. I'm also going to do a couple strips in Black and I think I am going to make the straps black too.

What does a girl have to do to knit in the dark? I have been complaining to my husband since we bought our house that I don't have enough light in the living room to knit at night. He ok'd me hiring an electrician to put in a few recessed ceiling lights. But, my electrician (a relative) is busy with jobs till the end of February. So, my wonderful husband came up with a brilliant idea...right from the shed...Don't laugh to hard...It works!

2005 a year in review...

I will always cherish 2005 because this was the year I graduated from Gwynedd-Mercy College with a Bachelor of Science Degree Business Administration, I even graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.93 GPA. Not bad for a 44 year old married lady with a full time job! Ok, I'm tooting my own horn. But, For the past 4 1/2 years I had a full time career, and went to school at night. So for me other than marrying my husband, graduating from college is one of my most important life events. Getting a college degree was something that I never thought I could do. But with the support of my husband, Ray telling me to keep going, and I did it!

This year I figured that if I put my resolutions in writing and if the whole world sees them, I just might stick to them.

1. Knitting - I must complete at least ONE knitting project a per month - If I start it, I must finish it. I know this is going to be tough...But, I must focus.
2. Exercise - I really need to do this, I sit a a desk all day and my bum really shows it. I have been thinking about joining Curves - but, I wonder if they will let me exercise and knit at the same time...Hum...Need to check this out.
3. Money - This year I really need to stop "pissing" away money, I need budget my knitting money better - I need to start buying my yarn in BULK and on sale - As Ben Franklin said "A penny saved, is a penny earned"!
4. Eat Better/Drink More Water - Limit my Starbucks visits to two times a week - oh, I can feel a caffeine withdrawal headache coming on now!
5. Life's really to short to sweat the small stuff - "What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve" I have said this statement to myself everyday for the past 5 years and I think it's working.

I wanted to share some of my current knitting projects - Below is the very fist sweater I have ever knitted. I took a class at Olde Peddler Wools in Morgantown, PA. It is a Reynolds Lopi Pattern, book 21. I used Brown Sheep Bulky Wool. The gauge is 3.5 stitch per inch and it is knit in the round. I was not sure about the long yoke, but it looks great on. The only thing I don't like is that I made the body 2" longer than what the pattern called for and it is just to way to long for me so, my husband wears it, deer hunting... image that!. But, the sleeves fit great. I really got hooked on knitting this and I just love it.

These are Koigu Socks that are a Christmas Gift for my sister...I know Christmas was last month...But, I was really busy and I knew she would understand - the picture does not do the socks justice! They are just gorgeous...

I just love this picture, one reason is the company name H. O'Neill & Co. My heritage is Irish and the O'Neill name holds great meaning to me...I found it while doing a little surfing. I just wish my husband would act like a yarn swift some times...Sit there hold the yarn and don't ask "how much did this cost and what am I going to make with it". This year my dad asked me to cook Christmas Dinner. How could I say NO to Daddy. So, Honey Baked Ham it is...But cleaning the house part "sucks". Yesterday I needed to pick up the ham in Norristown and I had an appointment to get my hair highlighted at 6:30pm (my stylist is soooo busy that I had to make the appointment 3 weeks in advance..But, that is another story). So, I thought I would start my trek to Norristown by visiting a yarn store, shop at the QVC outlet in Frazer and then kill some time at the King of Prussia Mall. First stop - Frou Frou, a very nice yarn shop located in Berwyn, PA - Now, I know its the holidays and I should wait to see if I get any yarn for Christmas...But, I needed a fix...And much to my surprise they had Mission Falls 1824 wool on clearance for $5 per skein I got 10 balls of the most beautiful olive green...What a great stash builder. Then off to the QVC outlet...Now, I love QVC but the outlet is an adventure...The first thing I spot was a tiny sign behind the jewelry counter "40% off on all Dooney & Bourke Bags" (I am a sucker for a great handbag let alone a sale) Now, at the QVC outlet before you get waited on at the counter you MUST take a number, I have worked retail - but don't you think something is wrong with the stores management when it is two days before Christmas and you only have TWO people working behind the jewelry counter? They were serving number 50 and I pulled my number....Gosh darn number - 69 -I should of known...Well, as I am standing at the counter...Slowly losing my mind..I spot an awesome black leather number sitting on the shelf...It is speaking to me, Theresa...I will look great hanging on your arm you need me! After a long 40 minutes they called number 68 - ok, now I'm getting excited, I'm next, but as my luck would have it...the lady (and I use the word loosely) who had number 68 asked to see MY handbag...I tried hide my concern - I am shouting at her (in my mind only!) - NO lady not the black one! NO...Buy the blue one...Not the black one...Darn, Darn, Darn...She bought MY black handbag...I was so mad I left...Empty handed but, I still had my new wool....So, how was your Friday.

I'm gonna give this blogging thing a try...

Well 2005 is coming to a fast end...and I have wanted to publish a blog for such a long time. A few of my Checo Stich n Bitch girlfirends blog, and I have so enjoyed thier musings...so, here it goes...my first post.

I am not really a creative writer and I hope you dont' find my posts to rambling or dull...I want to share my life's ups, downs and sides....so stick around the best is yet to come.
